Lake Diefenbaker can be a very difficult lake to fish at times. I was there in June for 9 days and only caught 4 fish. Due to the weather, we also only got out 4 times. But, i've seen and heard people bring some nice fish outta there. Just gotta keep trying .......

going to Danielson Aug. long weekend first time any suggestions on where to fish would be appreciated

Star Star Star Star Star

by Sabby on Jul. 2, 2014

We tried down by the spillway today, and it was quite brutal. We were there all evening and only got a few nibbles. We tried minnows, night crawlers, salmon eggs, spoons, spinners, cranks, you name it not a thing all day. We usually take the boat out but we tried to shore fish and regret it. Last year we limited out on walleye every night and I also landed a nice 8lb walleye. Good place to fish, but you have to have the right materials.

What were you using for bait at the spillway?

Star Star Star Star Star

by Parisica on Jun. 4, 2014

Coteau bay is dead. Caught 1 two pound walleye, had a rainbow beside the boat, and a tiny perch. We tried near the dam too. No luck. We tried everything. Trolling, casting, slip-bobbing, jigging, bottom bouncing... All brutal. Yesterday we also tried the bays north of Elbow. Water is 60-ish degrees. Just two pike. One 3 lbs and one maybe 5-6 lbs. Two days ago they closed the spillway. The three of us did manage to catch 6 decent walleye from the shore of the spillway downstream of the dam between 9pm and 10:30pm. Going back in July, I sure hope things pick up! I'd like to get my hands on more rainbows though just for something different. We've caught a couple in the past but figure it was a fluke. We don't really get to fish for trout that often so we don't really know what we are doing here. Lol. Anyone know what works best and where? We tried trolling with blue spinners and cranks by the dam but no luck. Pump house by the dam was dead today too. I'm pretty sure all the fish that were jumping/surfacing in the spillway the other night were trout. Could not get one to bite though! Anyone?

Star Star Star Star Star

Star Star Star Star Star

by Richy on May. 18, 2014

It has been a while since there. I cannot remember the boat launch we used. It was private boat launch I think. Went through lucky lake maybe? Turned left in at town anyways and followed a road to the dock maybe 4 5 miles? The boat launch was in a small channel. When we left the channel we went west for a bit then south to the fish farm. Can anyone tell me the name of the launch as we are going there next week and that is the most familiar to me. Thanks in advance.

Fishing has slowed down significantly the past few weeks here... my dad and I shore fish, and unless your going for goldeye, there's not much in the water... there is a frog pond you can catch tiny pike just south of elbow...

Fishing is slow. Water level is still high, so that might be affecting the fish.
